The Winter's Tale
Sunday 28th June 3:30 PM - Sunday 5th July 2020
UNFORTUNATELY THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Sevenoaks Shakespeare Society has been presenting Shakespeare as part of the Festival for many a year, and we are delighted this year to be staging one of his best loved works, THE WINTER'S TALE. Come with your own folding chair or picnic blanket and breathe in the warm summer air of The White Rock Inn as we take you back to the harshest winter Sicily has ever seen! Shakespeare's classic play transports us through time and space - between the pleasant, present Summer of Bohemia and the wintry tundra of a past Sicily. In Sicily, a jealous tyrant king succumbs to the paranoia of an unfaithful wife; we see the tragedies his suspicions cause unfold. In Bohemia, comedy abounds as two young lovers, one a prince and the other a poor shepherdess, try to avoid the judging eyes of the prince's old-fashioned father. In the last act, these two stories combine into one of Shakespeare's most iconic final scenes.
